Playing with Words!
Calming our mind as an adult can be done in so many different ways. We can meditate, practice yoga, swim or go for a run (that last ones for you because I run like Phoebe from friends). We can invest in a hobby or we can simply mess around like a big kid…
But when was the last time you brought your full attention and consciousness to play?
When was the last time you lost yourself for a moment to be swept away in your imagination?
I remember doing this daily as a child. I was a real Alice in Wonderland, thinking up stories or funny consequences to real life situations and playing them in my mind like my own personal vivid movie. I much preferred make believe over physical play with dolls any day! This love of words didn’t leave me and as I’ve grown into adulthood I still use imaginative writing and poetry to process and relax. Through writing I can make sense of situations that are difficult to understand and through writing I can process emotions that are otherwise consuming.
Do you use make-believe as a way of processing situations or emotions? Please share your art work, poems and creative writing with me, I would love to read them. I will leave you with a poem that shares this passion with you. I hope you enjoy it!
Opening My Eyes
I want to open my eyes to the magic and allow the fairies to whisper.
I want to open my eyes to the beauty and allow your sparkle to shine on my soul.
I want to get lost in make believe and think in childhood fantasy.
I want to allow pixies and unicorns to dance around my head and fill it with rainbows and fairy dust.
I want to journey to far off lands and speak with animals and mythical creatures.
I want to loose myself in youthful play and remember what it is like to dream in lollipops and make believe.
For when I open my eyes and see the world for what it is. I want to carry that magic into my every day…
I want to see joy in the simplicity,
I want to see the sparkle in the ordinary,
I want to live my day seeing everything as new.
Love to your sensory self,
