Hygge Me Calm is the support package that I needed when I first recognised my sensory sensitivities!

Within this blog I reflect on how Hygge Me Calm was born out of my own need for support…

I have always been sensory sensitive for as long as I can remember. Lights, sights and sounds have always directed my experience of the world, although I didn’t fully understand what these differences were until they were identified in my children. Up until that point I felt utter frustration as to why I was always so physically unwell, tired and irritable.

I spent years trying to find solutions to help reduce my intense emotional responses, restlessness, fatigue and anxiety. I read countless self-help guides, explored many spiritual and meditation practices and studied psychology at university all in an attempt to try and understand how I experienced the world.

What I didn’t realise at the time, was that the stress and anxiety that I was feeling in my day was unavoidable due to being sensory sensitive and that the self-help supports wouldn’t help me until I recognised my sensory needs and supported them appropriately.

As I learnt more about what being sensory sensitive was and about the types of supports I could use with my children, I started to apply the same principles to myself. I copied the strategies designed for my children and they started to help me feel better. I was finally learning what my body needed and the benefits of sensory regulation techniques. Although these supports were working they were brightly coloured toys that drew of a lot of attention form passers by. I was at a point of utter frustration…

I was fed up of following ‘self-help’ crazes that weren’t written with my sensory sensitivities in mind.

I was fed up of trying to find sensory supports in children’s sections or shopping for products from grey lifeless disability focused sites.

I was fed up of the looks that I would receive from passers by when using products that helped me to feel better in my day to day but as an adult made me stand out.

I was fed up with the hours of research that I had to do in order to piece together how I experienced the world…and I was desperate to find a solution that worked for me!

Through Hygge Me Calm I created the support package that I needed!

Within Hygge Me Calm I share my journey and the supports that have worked for me so that you can in turn explore your own sensory needs and discover the supports that work for you.

Due to the financial constraints of the initial launch I can not provide you with all of sensory packages that I intend to make public. Therefore to start you on your sensory journey I have created Hygge Me Calm as an initial support package from which subsequent products will complement.

The Hygge Me Calm products and their accompanying strategies are beautiful, soft and gentle. This is because I recognise that you may have taken many years to find these solutions and a soft, gentle approach is best!

Hygge Me Calm includes aromatherapy and proprioception supports that help promote better sensory regulation, reduce anxiety and promote a better nights sleep. The accompanying articles then outline strategies and suggestions on how to make the most of the products and incorporate them into your day.

As the finishing touches to Hygge Me Calm are finalised and the accompanying articles written I urge you to reach out to me with any comments or questions regarding Hygge Me Calm or with any suggestions for supports that you would like to see in future packages. I really appreciate your feedback and I look forward to reading your suggestions,

Love to your sensory self,
